Floating during pregnancy and postpartum

A careful guide to weightless rest during pregnancy, especially the third trimester, and returning to floating after birth.

Floating during pregnancy and postpartum at FLOAT ONE Glasgow

For many expectant mothers, the appeal of floating is simple: warm, supportive water takes the effort out of lying down and creates quiet space to rest and connect with the baby. This can feel especially welcome during the third trimester.

Speak with your maternity team first

Pregnancy is individual. Ask your midwife, doctor or another qualified clinician whether floating is appropriate for you before booking, particularly if your pregnancy is high-risk or you have any complication or medical concern.

Why the third trimester can feel different

As the body changes, finding a comfortable resting position can become harder. Dense salt water supports the body evenly and lets you adjust your position freely. The pod can remain open, the internal light can stay on and you can leave at any time.

A quiet place to connect

Without phones, conversation or the usual pull of the outside world, some mothers value the chance to notice movement, breathing and the simple experience of being with their baby. It is a personal wellbeing experience rather than a medical treatment.

Comfort and temperature matter

Float water is kept close to skin temperature rather than hot-tub temperature. Even so, tell us if you feel too warm, light-headed or uncomfortable, and end the session whenever you need to. Hydrate before and after your visit.

Returning postpartum

Postpartum floating can offer deeply valued private time, but recovery must come first. Wait until bleeding has stopped and any wounds, tears or incisions are fully healed, and obtain guidance from your midwife or clinician before returning. Contact the centre if you would like to discuss the practical details.

The best first step

Build your float baseline.

One float introduces the experience. Three gives you time to recognise what regular floating can do.
